みなさん、こんにちは。
今回は申し訳ありません、全然ビジネスの話ではありません。私自身の話をさせていただきます。この前の日曜日に突然、強烈なめまいに襲われました。自分の人生で初めての事です。もうまっすぐ歩けないし階段の上り下りが出来ない。私にとっては人生で一番の「非常事態宣言」でした。しかも翌日の月曜日から出張でアメリカに行く予定になっていたのです。日曜日ですから病院はすべてお休み、もちろん精密検査を受けられるところはどこもなく・・・、緊急外来でも耳鼻科や脳外科などの担当の先生がいらっしゃる病院はどこもなく・・・、一晩寝て状況を見て出張の取りやめを決めるかどうかを考えていました。
翌日になって・・・、治っているはずがありません。ということで残念ながら出張中止となりました。いつもだったら「このくらいなら行っても大丈夫！」ということで行ってます。実際に数年前ですが前日に肋骨を折ったのに翌日にはオーストラリアにも出張しましたから。通常だったら「なんとかなるだろう！」と思っていたのに今回は「こりゃやめた方が良いな」と自分で思う位なんだから重症です。
そこで病院に行きながらすぐに思いついたこと、それは飛行機のキャンセル。月曜日の朝11時のJAL10便シカゴ行きです。これが私の最も利用している路線です。発券はアメリカでしてもらっているのですが現地は前日の日曜日、もちろん会社は閉まっているので物理的にキャンセルしてもらうのは不可能です。故にJALのコールセンターに連絡して「キャンセルしたい」とのリクエストを入れました。当日のキャンセルですからもちろんキャンセル料がかかるし、海外のチケットだから安くないんです。いくらかかるんだろうか？とそれもかなり気になりました。
そうしたら
「打越様、どうもお名前が見当たらないのですが・・・、発券番号などありましたらいただけませんか？」
というので
「今、病院なので情報はありません。でもないはずないんですが・・・」
と言ったら
「わかりました。いずれにしてもこちらで確認して処理しておきます。もしこちらから電話がなければすべて問題なし、ということにさせてください」
というので
「わかりました。よろしくお願いいたします」
と言って切りました。
その後に全く電話が来なかったので「ちゃんと処理してくれたんだな」と思いました。ただ、当日のキャンセルだから必ずキャンセル料がかかります。それがいくらなのか？がわからなかったので発券した旅行会社にメールを入れておいたのです。
アメリカでは月曜日も祝日だったので連絡が来たのは火曜日、こちらはすでに水曜日でした。その内容は「あれ？2月のフライトですか？こちらでは・・・、まだ予約を受けていないはずですが・・・」というモノでした。
え〜？飛行機の予約してなかったの？もうびっくりでした！もし自分にめまいが起こらなくてそのまま成田空港に月曜日行っていたら間違いなく大パニックでした！（笑 こんなこと、人生で初めてでした。もしかしてこのめまいは本当に脳から来ているのでは？と思ってしまうくらいの大チョンボ！でも結果としてこの出張で予約していた飛行機やホテル、レンタカーなど様々なキャンセルがありましたが、被害額は合計5万円くらいで済みました。（笑
なんと言う不幸中の幸い！笑いのネタになると思って書いちゃいました。もうおおよそ復活しておりますので大丈夫と思います。
次回は真面目にクリーニング業の事を書きたいと思います。

Let me write English this time, because it is not for business. Let me write what happened to me. As you know or not, I got severe dizziness in last Sunday. It was my first experience. I couldn’t walk straightly and step up and down stairs. It was absolutely my first “Emergency”. Furthermore, I was to go to Chicago as business trip, so I wanted to go to doctor, but unfortunately it was Sunday and all hospitals were close especially big hospital. I wanted to go to otolaryngology or neurosurgery to check more carefully, but none of hospital was available. My family and myself decided to see my condition over night and decide.
Next day morning, of course it never got better, so I decided to cancel my flight. Normally I am really optimistic and never feel negative. In fact, I have broken two ribs and next day was my business trip to Australia. Of course I went there, my feeling was optimistic and thought “should be OK!!”, but I didn’t feel optimistic this time. This is very unusual.
What I thought during my going to hospital was cancellation to everything. Especially, what I thought was about air ticket. My regular flight is Japan Airline 10 to Chicago, departing 11:10am. My most frequent flight. I always buy this ticket in Chicago, and it was still Sunday evening over there, so it is physically impossible to ask cancellation. So, I called JAL call center in Tokyo and asked my cancellation. It cost some fee for this cancellation due to the day of departure. Furthermore, it is not cheap. I wondered how much it cost…
Then the contact person answered
“Mr. Uchikoshi, we checked the flight…, but cannot find your name…, so could you please give me issuing number? “
So I answered
“Sorry, I am in hospital right now and don’t understand. Can I give you when I am going back to my home?”
She said
“OK, but let me double check. If we don’t call you back again, please understand everything was OK!”
“OK, thank you for your support!!”
I hanged up the phone.
Then, I didn’t get any phone call from the center, so I thought “They took care of me correctly!!”, but it is the cancellation of same day, which must be charged some cancellation fee. I wondered how much, so I sent e-mail to my travel agency in Chicago.
It was national holiday on last Monday, so they sent me e-mail on Tuesday, which was our Wednesday morning. What was written was “Oh, were you talking about the flight on February? Well…, I guess that we didn’t receive any order from you…”
Oh my god!! Didn’t I book the flight? I was shocked. If I didn’t have any health problem and went to the airport, it was really big mess!! (lol
It was my first time. I was thinking that my dizziness was coming from my brain?
But fortunately, it was no cancellation fee in my international flight, so totally my loss from this trip cancellation was only $500.00. In fact, I booked few hotels and rental car, domestic flight in US…, what a small amount!! (lol
What a consolation in disaster!! It was really funny story, so I disclosed to you. I am now almost good!! Thank you for your warm messages!!
